West Seattle Electric & Solar
In 2008, Keith and his family opened West Seattle Natural Energy, LLC, a company dedicated to the design and installation of Renewable Energy Systems including Solar PV and Small Wind Energy Systems. The company has always offered electrical work to their solar clients, so in 2016 they established West Seattle Electric to meet the demand for high-quality electrical work, especially for small projects, for everyone. In 2017, they decided to merge the two companies – West Seattle Electric and Solar was born! Now with a staff of 11, and their first company service van, they continue to follow the company philosophy of a Family Run Small Business: offer the best products, use the highest installation standards and charge reasonable rates.
They strive to maintain a sterling reputation of 100% Customer Satisfaction by employing honest people, setting manageable schedules and delivering premium quality work – both electrical and solar. Every employee on the team delivers every single day. By anticipating common installation issues and fully educating their customers, they guarantee jobs that have no frustrations, no bait and switch — and no financial surprises.

Ryan Hughes
As one of the founding members of the West Seattle Natural Energy ownership team, Ryan spent the first 7 years as Installation Manager.
He was responsible for crew training, solar and wind installations, and employee management. In 2015 he transitioned out of the field and into dual roles of Sales and Project Management. In 2016, tired of seeing his crew work 100-hour weeks in the summer and barely working the winter, Ryan started up the residential electrical sub division known as West Seattle Electric. When leadership decided to merge the two companies in late 2017, Ryan stepped into the new role of General Manager, overseeing both sides of the family business.
In 2019, founder Keith Hughes started his long-awaited semi-retirement and once again Ryan had to adapt, this time as Primary Owner/Operator. Ryan has overseen expansion from 1 crew to 3 full time field teams handling both solar installation and all forms of residential electrical services.
Ryan is the Sergeant At Arms for the local chapter of an international organization that protects abused children, in the West Seattle Veterans Service Center as the Vice President; and is a founding member of the West Side Neighbors Shelter formerly as the Board Vice President.
Ryan is a proud Army Veteran, having held certifications as an Airborne and a Cavalry Scout.
Casey Mar
Casey does whatever is needed. Her collegiate and professional background in journalism, layout, and design, as well as her concurrent 12-year career in visual merchandising, have given her a fondness for precise writing and beautiful things. She still oversees daily operations such as scheduling, work orders, and billing, but has been channeling her energies into focusing on bid- and contract-writing, as well as electrical plan design for some of our larger contractor clients. In doing so, she finds herself working closely with Mark and his apprentices whenever possible, to ensure plans meet code requirements and client needs. She is also currently working closely with Paige on keeping our social media pages and blog current, informative, and eye-catching.
Casey bakes. She bakes all the time and it’s becoming a problem. She has been known to have entire conversations with her cats, and her cats find this off-putting.
Mark Harris
Mark was our Solar Installation Manger for over 7 years and now oversees our electrical team, running point on our remodel and new construction work. From installing a handful of shop lights in a backyard shed to yanking out and replacing all the knob and tube in a century-old home, Mark does it all, and while training his awesome apprentices, no less. He’s the goofy uncle of the team– a veritable fount of knowledge and skill, but with seriously questionable taste in hats.
When not running his team electrical apprentices, he works with Jay to make sure your solar system works right, looks right, is right. He has relationships with all of our manufacturers and works directly with them on warranty fixes and replacements.
Jay Anderson
Once your project is designed and the parts are delivered; it’s Jay’s job to lead the team that gets the job done right– on time and on budget. He has been with our company off and on since the beginning and has helped to install many of our systems. He rejoined us permanently in 2016. Not only does he quality check your system as it goes in, he meets with the inspector and utility representative after it is done to complete the process. Jay also personally does all the trouble-shooting for our systems, both the panels and the inverters.
